Robert: Grapes fetch $11 000 at auction
A bunch of 24 red grapes have set a new record as they were purchased for $11 000 USD at auction.
A Japanese businessman was the highest bidder on the most expensive grapes on record, dropping 1.2 million yen on them. He says he chose that amount since it has been 12 years since these specific type of grapes came into the market.
What makes these grapes so special? The bunch of 24 are rare Ruby Roman grapes, which are heavily sought after for their high sugar content, low acidity and juiciness. Only about 26,000 Ruby Roman grapes are expected to be sold this year as to keep availability low and demand high.
