Robert: Fire causes extensive loss at the province’s largest food bank
A fire at the province’s food sharing association has resulted in a tremendous loss of food.
The St. John’s Regional Fire Department responded to a call this morning of a fire at the Topsail Road building that housed The Community Food Sharing Association’s storage facility. Firefighters managed to get the blaze under control within a half hour of the call, and stayed on the scene as a precaution for a time afterwards.
The Community Food Sharing Association provides product for the entire province, and is the largest food bank in Newfoundland. Early estimates indicate that nearly, if not all, of the province’s food supply has perished.
