A family in Florida is being punished for having the Christmas spirit.

The Moffa family says they received a letter from their community association on November 8th, warning the family they may receive a $1,000 fine for putting up Christmas decorations too early.

Family patriarch, Michael Moffa told local news reporters that the decision to deocrate for the holidays was based on the availability of the professional decorator he hired.

“We actually booked this year from last year. November 6 was the date that he had early so we did it.”

The same letter from Westchase Community Association also stated the fine would increase by $100 every day the decorations remained up.

According to the Association, Christmas lights and decorations are only permitted on households after Thanksgiving.

The Moffa family shared their situation on social media, where it was met with much frustration and anger from those on the Moffa’s side.

The story even caught the eye of the Queen of Christmas herself, Mariah Carey, who wrote, “There’s no regulating festiveness.”
