Robert: Easter Seals NL damaged by flooding, forced to shut down for 2 months

The Easter Seals NL building at 206 Mount Scio Road in St. John’s experienced some extensive flooding over the weekend that severely damaged the majority of the facility. The flooding also left office equipment and specialized equipment used by the charity’s 20 programs aimed at individuals of all ages, with all disabilities, ruined. The organization is now forced to find a temporary work space for it’s employees and new locations for it’s summer and career services programs.

The Easter Seals building is one of Newfoundland and Labrador’s most accessible buildings, aiming to provide an fully inclusive environment to those in this province who live with disabilities. The shut down not only leaves a void in the community, but it also means a loss of space used for crucial fundraising activities and rental revenue.

The charity is currently estimating that repairs with take approximately two months to complete as walls, flooring, and equipment are in need of replacement.
