Robert: Deep fried maple leaves are a thing
Canada has some truly delicious food creations to call its own. From poutine to Nanaimo bars, there are a number of great examples of Canadian cuisine. Deep fried maple leaves, however, is not one of them.
The interesting take on one of the country’s most patriotic symbols are being offered at the Spirit Tree Estate Cidery in Caledon, Ontario, as part of the bistro’s fall menu.
Officially named Tempura Fried Maple Leafs, the dish consists of freshly picked maple leaves, which are then salt-cured and covered in tempura batter and deep-fried. They are then drizzled in maple syrup and soy dressing and finished off with peanut praline.
