Geese can be jerks. But they’re not all bad.

Staff at the New England Wildlife Center’s Cape Cod Branch spotted a concerned Canada Goose looking into a window as a fellow goose underwent a surgical procedure on Wednesday.

Arnold, a goose who lives in the pond near the centre, was found limping and staff discovered he had two fractures on his foot. They took him in for surgery to repair the issue, and as they finished transporting him inside, there was a tapping at the door. At the door was another goose, believed to be Arnold’s partner, followed him to the centre.

“She had somehow located him and was agitated that she could not get inside,” the center says. “She remained there throughout the entire procedure, watching us work, never moving from the doorway.”

After Arnold’s surgery, the center let him recover by the doorway in full view of his partner.

“His mate immediately calmed down and began to groom him through the door,” the center wrote. “They both seemed much more at ease in each other’s presence.”
