Mulan Now Not Going to Theatres, Will be on Disney+ for $30 Rental Fee
On Tuesday, Disney announced that it will release its live-action adaptation of the film Mulan on its streaming service next month. Vulture reports that Mulan will be available to view on September 4 on Disney+. The film will be listed as a rental for $29.99. Disney will only release the movie theatrically in countries without the streaming service. Mulan is the first major release to avoid theaters and go straight to streaming. It was originally supposed to hit theaters in March, but was pushed back to July and August before this decision were made. “We’re looking at Mulan as a one-off as opposed to say some new business windowing,” said Disney chief exec Bob Chepak, adding that allowing the film to stream will help the studio recoup costs.
