You’ve likely had a lot of video conferences in the last year-and-a-half or so, and you might find the meetings leave you feeling quite tired. This has been dubbed “Zoom fatigue,” and is described as feeling drained following a day of virtual meetings.

University of Arizona researchers have found that the camera may be partially to blame for this feeling. Study leader Allison Gabriel says in an experiment, people reported feeling more fatigue when they had to turn their cameras on for these meetings, compared to those told to leave their cameras off. She suggests that employees should not be expected to turn on their cameras during meetings, and instead should be given the autonomy to make the decision for themselves.
