Hugh: Watching Strangers Study Quietly is the Latest YouTube Trend

I’m not going to pretend I haven’t done some odd things over the course of the pandemic (or before), but I really don’t get the latest YouTube trend. According to AsiaOne, YouTube videos of random people studying quietly are growing in popularity. It’s exactly what it sounds like – people sitting at desks reading books and notes as they study quietly. The trend started in South Korea and has since gone worldwide. Apparently some people enjoy putting these videos on while studying or working themselves, so it doesn’t feel like they’re doing it alone. Others find a sense of motivation from seeing someone else working hard, and some say it’s just for the ambient noise. As a person who was always too distracted people-watching to study effectively in a library, I’ll pass.
