Inflation continues to drive the price of everyday options up, and one place we’re definitely seeing the difference is the grocery store. In September, the year-over-year price increase for food in general was 11.4%, the highest it’s been in decades. However, market prices aren’t rising the same for all items. The most recent numbers from October show that margarine is the food item that has relatively gotten more expensive than anything else. In fact, you could be paying a massive 40.4% for margarine than you would have last year. Pasta products saw the second biggest change, at 27.4%, followed by butter at 20.2%. Rounding out the top five grocery items that have gotten more expensive lately are dairy products and eggs. It’s not all bad, however. Some numbers suggest that the forces that are rising the price of food are stabilizing, and the price of some items are down from the previous month. Among the grocery items that have gone down in price from last month are coffee, tea, fruits, and vegetables. What have you noticed you’re paying more for lately?
