A school district in Texas will be switching to a four-day school week for students in the upcoming year, due to teacher burnout and shortages amid the pandemic. The Jasper Independent School District said on Facebook that the calendar will meet the 75,600 minutes required for students during a school year. The four-day week would begin in October and continue through the end of April, with the school year beginning with standard five-day weeks in August. For teachers, on Fridays, when students won’t be there, they will have professional development and other resources without missing class time, according to the district. The school district said a survey emailed to parents and staff found 64 percent supported a four-day week, while teachers were 84 percent in favor in a separate survey.
