Friday afternoon, Dr. Janice Fitzgerald returned from vacation to announce a new batch of confirmed cases as well as a newly identified cluster in the Marystown area. Since Wednesday, there have been 30 new cases of COVID-19, with a total active case count of 62. A cluster has been identified in the Marystown area, and Sacred Heart Academy has been shifted to online learning with several students testing positive. Marystown and surrounding communities on the Burin Peninsula, including Garnish, Burin, and Red Harbour have been moved to Alert Level 3. Dr. Janice Fitzgerald is asking residents of the Burin Peninsula not to travel out of the area until they get a grasp on the spread of the cluster.
