Hugh: Province Records 493 New COVID-19 Cases, Still With One Person in Hospital

Today (Tuesday, January 4), Newfoundland and Labrador has 493 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 since the last media update on January 3. Contact tracing by Public Health is underway and anyone considered a close contact has been advised regarding quarantine according to current guidelines.

In the Eastern Health region:

  • Forty under 20 years of age;
  • One hundred and three between 20-39 years of age;
  • Twenty-four between 40-49 years of age;
  • Fifty-two between 50-59 years of age;
  • Twenty-five between 60-69 years of age; and
  • Twenty-three 70 years of age and above.

There are 127 females and 140 males. All are under investigation.

In the Central Health region:

  • Five under 20 years of age;
  • Fifteen between 20-39 years of age;
  • Nine between 40-49 years of age;
  • Nine between 50-59 years of age;
  • Thirteen between 60-69 years of age; and
  • Six 70 years of age and above.

There are 31 females and 26 males. All are under investigation.

In the Western Health region:

  • Nine under 20 years of age;
  • Eleven between 20-39 years of age;
  • Five between 40-49 years of age;
  • Five between 50-59 years of age;
  • One between 60-69 years of age; and
  • Two 70 years of age and above.

There are 20 females and 13 males. All are under investigation.

In the Labrador-Grenfell Health region:

  • Twenty-seven under 20 years of age;
  • Forty-nine between 20-39 years of age;
  • Sixteen between 40-49 years of age;
  • Nineteen between 50-59 years of age;
  • Six between 60-69 years of age; and
  • Eight 70 years of age and above.

There are 68 females and 57 males. All are under investigation.

There are also 11 cases that are the result of testing completed by a private lab outside of a Regional Health Authority:

  • Two under 20 years of age;
  • Three between 20-39 years of age;
  • One between 40-49 years of age;
  • One between 50-59 years of age;
  • One between 60-69 years of age; and
  • Three 70 years of age and above.

There are four females and seven males. All are under investigation.

There have been 164 new recoveries – 115 in the Eastern Health region, 23 in the Central Health region and 26 in the Western Health region, and 2,794 people have recovered. There is one person in hospital because of COVID-19.
