Hugh: No MLB Games Will be Held in Canada This Season
With the return of Major League Baseball only a week away, it was announced today that the Toronto Blue Jays have been denied Canadian federal government approval to play games at Rogers Centre in Toronto. The team has been holding training camp in Toronto this month, however Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Marco Mendicino says that regular-season games would be much riskier. A factor that is keeping the MLB out of Canada this season is that the Blue Jays will be playing in locations where the risk of virus spread remains high. Mendicino says that having teams crossing the border into Canada “would not adequately protect Canadians’ health and safety.” Alternative ballparks being considered for Jays home games are TD Ballpark in Dunedin, FL and Sahlen Field in Buffalo, NY.
