Hockey fans everywhere are rejoicing today as the NHL and the IIHF announced that NHL players will return to Olympic play for the 2022 games in Beijing, China. The Winter Games, which will be held this coming February, will be the sixth that NHL have competed in and the first since Sochi in 2014, where Canada won gold. Of course, there is still a lot that could happen between now and then. If COVID-19 conditions worsen, the NHL or the NHLPA can still pull out of play, with an opt-out deadline likely in early January. For now, at least, Canadian hockey fans can get excited about Connor McDavid leading Team Canada onto the Olympic ice as they go for gold in just a few months.
