Hugh: New Words Added to Merriam-Webster Dictionary Including ‘Hangry’, ‘Bougie’, ‘Rando’, and ‘TL;DR’

On Tuesday, Merriam-Webster announced that it had added a whopping 840 new terms to its dictionary. Among the splashier entries are hangry, guac, avo, bougie, adorbs, rando, zoodles, mocktail, hophead, Latinx, and TL;DR, a favourite of texters with short attention spans that means “too long; didn’t read.” Explaining the additions in an online statement, the dictionary publisher wrote, “The addition of new words to a dictionary is a step in the continuous process of recording our ever-expanding language.” Indeed!
