Hugh: George Street working on allowing to-go drinks to ease capacity concerns. What do you think?
Friday morning, it was confirmed that the George Street Association and the Newfoundland and Labrador Liquor Corporation are working on a proposal that would allow George Street bars to serve drinks in to-go cups so customers could head outside. The proposal would ease capacity concerns, as establishments are currently restricted to allowing up to only 50 percent of their usual capacity. The practice is normally allowed for special events, including the George Street Festival, which will not be going ahead this year. Movement with the to-go cups would operate similar to how it works during those events, with no drinks permitted to be carried off the street. On the George Street Association’s social media, they said that exciting ideas are brewing and to stay tuned.
