Hugh: Cineplex Adding $1.50 Charge for Buying Tickets Online

If you’re planning on going to a movie, it’s generally a smart idea to book your tickets online so you’re guaranteed the seats of your choosing, but now the convenience will cost you a little more. Cineplex, the largest theatre chain in Canada, says they’ve introduced a new $1.50 booking fee for ticket purchases done online or through the app. The company says the move is part of their plan to “further invest and evolve digital infrastructure,” including website upgrades. Now, there are ways that moviegoers can avoid or lessen the new fees. Purchases made in-person will not be subject to the fees, Scene+ rewards members will pay a reduced charge of $1 per ticket, and members of the chain’s CineClub monthly subscription plan will have the fee waived entirely.
