Hugh: CERB Payments Coming After Numerous Delays Reported
On September 2nd and 3rd, several people took to social media in Canada wondering why their CERB deposit hadn’t shown up yet. Many recipients have been accustomed to the money showing up within 48 hours of applying for it, and with rent and bills due at the beginning of the month, people became concerned. There is no clear reason for the delay, but the Canada Revenue Agency’s service standard is to issue payments within three to five business days, meaning people who applied this week can still expect to have their direct deposit within that time limit. The CRA has also began new due diligence measures to make sure the money lands in the correct accounts, and many can expect their money on Friday. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also said that there could be a few hiccups because of the extension to the service.
